Getting To Know Some Of You Readers (part 1 of 3)

You’ll notice on the top right hand portion  of the blog page I’ve installed a new item - Your Favorite Recipes.   Look closely- it’s there…You don’t want to miss it.

DM  looks around the table, clears his throat and says, “ Well, let’s get starting.  I want to thank all of you for coming.  If you would, could we just go around the table and introduce ourselves.  Maybe you can describe yourself in a few words and what you like to do in your free time.”

” Hi, my name is Andrea  I have a blog- come and visit me when you have time.    I would say I am friendly, self-motivated, a team player, easy going, extroverted, humble, affectionate and pleasing.    For fun I  I like to ice skate, read (non-fiction and christian books), chatting, knitting, mosaic, blogging, hanging out with friends and  watching TV.”

“Hi everyone, my name is Kristina.  I  am intense, shy, stressed,  faithful and loyal, apprehensive, determined.”  I love to knit.  Right now I actually have a give away on my blog if you’re interested.  I love doing bible studies, reading, cleaning my house (actually organizing it would be a better way of putting it), taking walks, and laying on a beach.  I’ll be getting to do that again in February.”  You can read more about me on my blog if you’re interested.”

“Hi Everyone, my name is Shel.  I’m still a relatively new visitor to the blog.  I would describe myself as compassionate, creative, fun-loving, loyal and a visionary.  In my free time I love to read non-fiction and biographies.  I also volunteer teach and enjoy spending quality time with my friends”

“Hi, I go by Eclexia.  Like Kristina, I have a blog.  You are welcome to go there and check it out.  Here are some words to describe myself:  Eclectic, a learner, empathetic, and serious.   In my free time  enjoy READING, playing the piano, visiting with friends one on one, getting to know them better, playing board games as long as they are not too intense, learning new things, understanding things from a different perspective, helping someone else learn or understand something new, scrap-booking…any of the rest of you like to scrap book?  I love to create things with photos.”

“Hi, my name is Rhosie.  I would describe myself as jolly, emotional- you might say childish (sometimes), friendly, stubborn (again just sometimes), soft hearted, complicated (aren’t we all sometimes ) :-)   and family oriented.   In my free time, here are some of the things I enjoy….cleaning the mess in my room, (there  is a chuckle from around the table at this point) rearranging our living area furniture, cleaning, playing with my nephew and niece, visiting with my sister, watching TV, surfing the net, reading books, blogging, going to the mall and writing in my diary.”

“Hi everyone!  My name is Melissa.  I also have a blog.  I’d invite you to come and check it out after we finish here…I would describe myself as  Inquisitive, Slightly Guarded, Stubborn, Loving, Quiet, Intuitive, Low-Maintenance .  As far as what I like to do for fun..  You might regret having given me permission to write as much as I want to on this one.

Melissa takes a breath and proceeds…

“Let’s see, I like to: Read.  Reading is a means of escape for me.  I can dive into a story and enter into another world.  Right now I’m trying to read all the Newbery Award books, because they’re quick, easy reads and usually have some sort of moral story behind them. Write. I love to journal and I love to blog.  I am not good at saying what I’m thinking or feeling, but writing everything out in one form or another provides such a feeling of release. Paint and Draw.  When you do artistic activities, you have to use a different half of your brain than you do when you think about analytical, logistic-type things.  You can’t paint and think at the same time.  I love to paint and draw because doing these things forces me to shut my brain off for a little while.   Walk my dog.  When I am home from school, my German Shepherd and I will do three or four miles around the village every night.  It’s nice to be outside, and the exercise feels good. Go to the beach.  I love Lake Ontario, and being there always makes me feel very refreshed.   In the summers, I spend hours at the beach by myself.  I plop a lawn chair in the sand, and spend the afternoon reading or writing.  I look for sea-glass, and wade in the water.  I won’t go swimming though.  Secret confession:  I am afraid of swimming with the fish, and so I never go out past where I can see my feet (which usually means I never go out past my knees).  Drive in my car and sing.  I can go for hours along the back roads, singing at the top of my lungs.  Belting it like that makes me feel confident and on-top-of-the world, for some reason.  And, I swear, I sound the best in the car… it’s like it’s the only place where the acoustics are just right…  J Spend time with my siblings.  I laugh loudest and hardest when I am with them.  I feel the most real when I am with them, and the most loved. If I had more time (and more money), I would like to travel more, go see more plays and concerts, and go to more museums.”  Melissa smiles, looks to her left at Meadow and nods that she is finished._____________________________________________________________________“Hi, my name is Meadow.  Like many of you, I have a blog.  Stop by  when we’re done here and  check it out.  I’d love to get to know you all a little more.  I would say I am loyal, faithful, introverted, and observant.    I love to read, blog, spend time with my husband, going out to eat, and work on genealogy research.”

Next, everyone turns to  MM.  She is DM’s wife

“Hi everyone.  My name is MM>   Being married to DM is like riding on the back of a tiger sometimes.  He is always  on the move!.  We balance each other out.  I would describe myself as soft spoken, simple, and stubborn, I mean determined. ;-)

(a few people chuckle at this comment)

One of the things DM and I  enjoy  doing is reading all of your comments on the blog and e-mails that come in.    I love to read and meditate on God’s word.  It helps me to stay centered and focused on Him.  I have started doing word-searches this winter.  Oh and did I mention I love to take naps! :-)   I love having coffee in the morning with DM,   I love to listen to people.   We’re working on some local history research right now.  I also love to soak in the tub,… and go out to eat.  I  teach a cooking class at a women’s shelter , which I enjoy.  Do you want to hear something really funny about that? ;-)   I never felt like I was a good cook…but they needed someone to fill in while the regular teacher took a break.  I said “OK”, and the rest is history.”

“Hi , my name is Tim.    I would describe myself as loving, helpful, humble, reliable, and putting people first.”  Tim looks around, not sure what else to say, so he nods to Enola to continue.

“Hi, I go by Annie.  I love  to blog!  I would describe myself as intelligent, humble, self-protective, willing to serve, helpful and feisty ;-)  .  I enjoy writing! …it helps me process my feelings and emotions.  Like I said, I enjoy blogging as I write because it allows me to interact with others.  I also love to scrapbook.  It’s a social outlet for me….an excuse for a ladies night out.  However, it also allows me to be creative and to produce something that my daughter can treasure in the future.  I like reading-  always have.  It’s an escape for me.  In the past, I’ve enjoyed cross-stitching and knitting- I still do both on occasion.  I like outdoor activities, especially water-skiing, white water rafting, canoeing, boating, camping and hiking.  I don’t get to do that as often as I’d like.  I also like learning.  If I were rich, I’d go to school for the rest of my life….and did I mention I LOVE Starbucks!”

“Hi everyone,  I go by Lawyerchik.  I would describe myself as a focused scatterbrain- too smart for my own good. I have a dog (His name is Tanner).  Free time…hummm, I actually enjoy reading when I have free time.  Although I read a lot for work, that was one of the reasons I ended up doing it for a living.  I also enjoy shopping- as distinguished from buying- in part because I like being alone in a crowd.  I like walking my dog or playing with him.  Mostly-  I like sleeping ;-) …(sort of like you- DM’s wife)

“Hi everyone!  My name is Hope.  I  also have a blog.  Check it out when you have a minute.  I would describe myself as sensitive, analytical, a thinker, a good listener, a peace maker, relational, a perpetual student….and a follower of Christ.  I love to read, and I love to write.  I enjoy  listening to people tell their stories.  I love to study the Bible and teach.  I love listening to people laugh and making them laugh.”

“My name is Eva,   I would say I am loyal, creative, a techie, sensitive, empathic, open minded.  In my spare time I tend to balance my creative pursuits (sewing, drawing, writing, programming, making pysanky…), spending time with my fiancee, and more social activities. I’m not really a party person but I like to get together with friends to play video or board games. I also devote a lot of time to my web page, since there are many things that I want to share. :)    Most recently I’ve been scanning and uploading Victorian photos and magazines. I don’t like the scanning part so much, but I like the fact that I’m helping other people find out about a period in history that’s usually over commercialized and misunderstood. “

“And my name is DM.  I would describe myself as intense, I  have diverse interests, I’m transparent, a self starter, affectionate and humble.    I enjoy tending our apple orchard.  You can read about it here.  Like many of you, I enjoy blogging, working with my hands, watching things grow and working on a local history project.”

At this point DM looks around to wrap up this first (but hopefully not) last meeting.

“Well everyone.  I think we’re going to stop there  for now.  There are still a couple of questions to cover as we get to know each other . Why don’t we all get together in a few days and finish our introductions.  I would love to hear about a typical day for each of you,  Several of you sent in  a favorite recipe…don’t forget to check them out before you go! ”

Annie stands up at this point and gets every-ones attention.  “I  would like to thank DM for taking the time to invite all of us together today.  Why don’t we give him a big round of applause!”

At this point DM  turns red from all of the attention.  “Thanks for coming!” he says as the meeting wraps up.  And that’s it!  If I’ve missed anyone, or if I’ve gotten something wrong, let me know ASAP.  If you didn’t join us for this one, drop me a note.  We would love to get to know more of you that stop by from time to time.  You don’t need to tell us your whole life story if you don’ t want to…maybe just your name…think about it.  Your thoughts?

Hi, I’m contactin you from Australia. I found your blogsite(mine is http://threeswans.blogspot) and if you want to leave comments on my blog, you’re welcome. Also, if any of you feels like reading some Christian fiction, would you consider my novel. “Outcasts of Skagaray”. You can check my website to find out what it’s about. If your local library does not have a copy, they might buy one if people ask. I read some of your comments, and found them interesting. I did not become a Christian until I was nearly 25, in the year 1979 (sounds like back in the New Stone Age) and wish I’d known in the past what I know now. God bless you all.
