Meet: Leann My Next Guest Blogger

By DM
My next guest is Leann.  My first impression of her was she was a genuine Southern Belle….gracious, and soft spoken. Here she is in her own words:
About Me: Leann is a technical writer and has a BA in English and an MA in Technical Writing. She enjoys books, cats, music, bad sci-fi movies, and being involved in church.

1) I go through periods of time when I read a LOT. At other times in my life, I won’t pick up a decent book for many, many months. Right now, I’m definitely in a reading phase. I love all types of genres, but I really love suspense. I love to be on the edge of my seat. I like those type of movies as well. I’m not your average, run-of-the-mill chick flick lover. Sure, they’re great every now and then but they’re so predictable. I love twists and turns and love to be surprised. I like science fiction too. I used to rail against it, but somehow my mother’s love of it crept into my sub-conscience…not to mention that every guy I’ve ever dated has loved it.

2) I took piano for ten years–from second grade until my senior year of high school. I love Beethoven and am fascinated by any story or movie about him. I once did a report on him for a Gifted and Talented project in grade school. If you haven’t seen the movie Copying Beethoven, you should check it out. It’s funny yet very touching (plus, it stars Ed Harris as Beethoven!).

3) Music is a huge part of my life. I have eclectic tastes–I love 1960s and 1970s Classic Rock and Easy Listening, 1980s New Wave, 1990s Alternative, Progressive/College/Indie Rock, Girl Bands, Hair Bands, Christian Contemporary (which has improved tremendously in the last ten years), and Classical. Right now, I’m pretty addicted to the Popular Classical station on Sirius Satellite Radio. I like to listen to it while I’m reading.

4) I accepted Jesus as my Savior when I was seven. I won’t pretend that my life has been perfect or that I haven’t made MANY mistakes. I have. And I have paid and am still paying some of the consequences. And I’m still making mistakes. But I have found that God is a loving God and a redeeming God. Faith is what gets me through the day. I just started teaching Sunday School to 10th-12th grade girls and I hope that I can give them a heads-up into this big, scary world that they will soon enter. I pray that I can be a godly influence on them so that they won’t commit the same sins and mistakes that I did when entering the “real” world. Because I wasn’t prepared AT ALL.

5) I work as a technical writer, but I’d really just love to own a bookstore. Who am I kidding? I just want to stay home and be a housewife and soon, a stay-at-home mom. The feminists are cringing right now…but it’s true. In my parents’ generation, it was a given that the mother would stay home with her kids. In my generation, we don’t really have much of a choice. If I had met my husband when I was younger and he had finished his degree traditionally (he’s back in school trying to finish it–he’s 34), then I might have had a chance because we would have started out with nothing and worked out way up from there. But that’s not how it was for me–we both started out with jobs and debt. I am grateful to God that I have two degrees and a wonderful job. I just want more out of life than fulfillment from my job. It’s not all it’s cracked up to be. And said debt makes it impossible to be at home right now.

6) I’ve been married for 2-1/2 years to my husband. He is sincere, loving, thoughtful, and most important of all, he loves the Lord. I can share anything with him (pretty much!) and he’s so good to ease my fears and calm my nerves. He’s going back to school to get a degree in Psychology, which I think is just perfect for him. He has an insight into the Bible that I don’t have; I envy that! He just sees things completely different than he does. But that’s okay…he’s my perfect mate. He’s really one of the only people in this world that really “gets” me. There are few out there other than my closest friends and family. I can be ME when I’m with him–relationships don’t always work that way, unfortunately. So, I am blessed beyond measure.

I guess that’s me in a nutshell.

I’m not at all sure what a technical writer is. Is it one of those people who write “Do not use while showering” tags on hair dryers? lol

You said that you want more in your life than a fulfilling job. Guess what… God wants more for you too!

Your husband doesn’t have any more understanding of the Holy Scripture than you do. He has just developed his (current) understanding before you have.

Look at Romans 8:28 and wait on the Lord.

    Be blessed in your pursuits.

Hi There, welcome to the club. I always wondered what a Southern Belle was so now I’m glad I know. It’s very nice to meet you.

mssc54 – a technical writer is someone who writes manuals, user guides, or instructions. In my current job, I write user guides for software that our IT department has developed and I also get to “test” the software to make sure it works properly. I write what we call validation plans, which we keep on file so that if an auditor comes, we can show that our systems works according to the guidelines we are supposed to adhere to. Sometimes boring…

Leann… I agree, that does sound boring.

Why don’t you see if you can get a gig writing manuals, user guides for vedio game makers! At least you could have a bit of fun with that. :)

I just wanted to let you know that I tried going to your blog Leann but my computer isn’t kind towards blogspot. It never works until about the third time and it frustrates me. By the time I have to copy and paste my address in, decode that dumb word, rewrite my comments. I find it’s to time consuming. Just wanted to let you know that I tried. I guess wordpress has me spoiled with only the one step to leave comments.
