Family picture taken around the time of the original race
She want’s a rematch
Eldest daughter and I raced on the lawn at Skyllands manor when she was 10 and I was in my early 30′s-
I beat her
barely
We were living in Northern New Jersey at the time.
She’s now a mommy herself with two little ones.
She’s started working on her bucket list recently and beating me in a foot race is on the list.
When I got wind of it I told her I would race her again any time
but she better do a little training first because I still have what it takes.
Maybe when I’m 80 and using a walker…
That’s all it took to put a fire under her butt.
I said, how about next June on your birthday?
Why not go back to the original site?
So the gauntlet has been thrown down.
I saw on her facebook status yesterday I think she’s taken the bait.
The ironic thing is, she will be about the age I was when we first raced so if you’re not doing anything June 18th 2011 you’re invited to come and cheer.
Here’s a picture of Skyland Manor:

Here’s a link for directions on how to get there.
What do you think?
There is a little part of me that wants her to win, but that would make for a hollow victory right?
I guess you’ll just have to come and see what happens.

It would only be a hollow victory if you let her win!
Train and do your best, and whatever happens happens.

Dad, I told Matt earlier that I’ll be a little bummed when I beat you….because that just means that you’re getting older. :0P

Lawyerchik and Fibi…can you hear that attitude in Angie? (she’s the one I’m going to have to beat again)
This is exactly how the first race started out..she started telling me how old and out of shape I was…which made it all the more enjoyable when I won.
but next June- not a chance. XXX your papa
Angie, like I said already, maybe when I’m 80 and needing a walker

What a wonderful way to celebrate family!
My Mum is 70 so I don’t think I’ll challenge her to a foot race anytime soon.
Keep racing DM and maybe you’ll never need that walker?
I’m looking forward to hearing more.

What a coincidence! We were there yesterday celebrating my daughter, Emma’s 8th birthday. We visited the gardens and the Manor. There was an event going in the Manor yesterday looking at the valet parked cars. Who won the race? Hope you had a wonderful day as we had yesterday. We swam in Shepherd’s Lake and then visited the Botanical Garden & the Manor afterward.
You asked who won the race….well I did by a stride. it was closer than the first time. I had mixed feelings about the race, part of me wanted her to win, but another part of me said, it had to be a real race or the win would be meaningless…anyway, she want’s a rematch for next year.
