Hi DM,
I have been reading your blog via my other blog. I then got this award and thought of you and all the wonderful things you have written.
I lenjoy your blog and want to get it read by even more people. See my recent post for the list with your blog on it!

So here are the rules for acceptance of the award:

1. Thank and link back to the person who awarded you this award.
2. Share 7 things about yourself.
3. Award 5 recently discovered great bloggers.
4. Contact these bloggers and tell them about the award.

There is a button that goes with the award. Click on mine and copy the properties into your own blog if you want it.

I hope you see this as a sign that I admire your blog, whether or not you decide to accept the award. I am too new to blogging to know much about all of this, but it made me feel good to get one.

I love this history, DM!! That's a lot of typing, too - thank you for taking the time to share what you're reading..... It takes me back to times when things were less automated and more immediate.

Salt is necessary, too, to keep healthy, correct? (I just googled and it said it was mostly necessary to keep LIVESTOCK healthy...and, as per Legally Insane Mommy, to preserve/prepare meat...)

Really interesting stuff! The poem really made those kids come alive, I found myself wanting to see them coming in from the cold, their eyes shining and cheeks red...

Honestly, the only thing I can think of that would have a similar impact here would be water and electricity. And in Brooklyn, NY, I can't imagine needing to go 90 miles to get either one...just not the same world!!
